Get the BLACK BOX(R) 10/100 Physical Layer Ethernet Switch. This electronic Layer 1 switch enables you reroute network connections remotely! The 10/100 Physical Layer Ethernet Switch gives you flexible, point-to-point connectivity in Ethernet and Fast Ethernet environments. Simply connect Category 5 (or better) UTP cables to any of the switch's ports. Then when you want to reconfigure devices in your network, switch one of two ways:
- Through a TCP/IP workstation.
- Using an RS-232 serial connection. For the remote TCP/IP or RS-232 methods, you need to install the included Windows(R) software on the network workstation of your choice. From this location, you use TCP/IP (via standard 10BASE-T Ethernet) connections or serial communications to control and monitor the device. All this is done through an intuitive GUI interface that installs quickly on your PC. Security at Layer 1. The 10/100 Physical Layer Ethernet Switch can also bring greater security to your network. Yes, a firewall is important, but true network security often means physically shutting off an organization's specific workstations, departments, or buildings from one another. The surest way to do this is by implementing security at the Physical Layer, and the 10/100 Physical Layer Ethernet Switch is your solution! Installed between your patch panels and network Ethernet switches, this switch enables you to connect and disconnect workstation by workstation or building by building to ensure a truly secure network. For instance, you can use the 10/100 Physical Layer Ethernet Switch, to improve security in an enterprise network that's segmented by departments. When you want to isolate one department's users from the larger network or provide any-to-any port connectivity, simply click a button in the switch's software!
