The asynchronous Carrier Sense Mini Driver-A makes it possible for RS-232 UNIX(R) and similar systems to communicate over two unconditioned twisted-pair cables. That's because it features carrier sense handshaking, which detects the presence of a carrier (RTS) on the line. And that comes in handy in applications where the host must "see" a carrier in order to send a log-on screen to a terminal. At 19.2 kbps over 24 AWG wire, the Carrier Sense Mini Driver-A carries your data 3.7 miles (5.9 km). It's maximum distance is 8 miles (12.8 km). The distance depends on speed and wire size. Choose models with optional surge protection--600 watts per wire--so your data doesn't get zapped. You can also select models with different connectors. An external DTE/DCE switch makes changing modes simple. And it's all small enough to fit in the palm of your hand.
