BLACK BOX(R) Rackmount 10/100 Serial Terminal Servers give you an excellent and easy way to link PCs, terminals, printers, modems, and other serial devices to your 10/100 Ethernet networks. They support simultaneous connections to each of their ports as well as one 10BASE-T link. At home in a crowd. The Terminal Servers are designed to provide serial port connectivity for networks with higher-density port requirements. They connect each serial device directly to the Ethernet network, conserving host ports and enabling each terminal to access multiple hosts. Also, terminal cabling on the network is greatly simplified. Each 10/100 RJ-45 serial port supports full modem controls on serial connectors providing various connecting and disconnection options based upon characters or modem control signals. They also support data rates up to 230.4 kbps, and an AUI is available for additional network interfacing. That's complete serial connectivity! Designed for better management. Up to eight host logins are available per port to TCP/IP or LAT hosts. This feature is augmented through load balancing in which the server chooses the least busy connection for each session. The result is better overall response time and balanced terminal usage. Web-based management software is included, and Redirector software makes it possible to run applications on networked PCs that were previously limited to direct serial connections. Flash ROM enables easy software upgrades from any TFTP, DECnet(tm), or Novell(R) host. The servers run independently and support connections using AppleTalk(R), IPX(tm), LAT(tm), NetBIOS/NetBEUI, and TCP/IP protocols. What's more, they support connections between themselves as IP or DEC LAT nodes--which is useful for providing translation between the two protocols--and serial printers using any of the five protocols. Safe and secure, too. The servers boast strong security features. They use group codes to limit users' access to manager-chosen services or devices. At the port level, users are logged out automatically as soon as a port is disconnected or a device turned off. Other standard features include user-defined password protection, IP security tables, dialback, and a menu that enables managers to impose restrictions based on users' security levels.
