Description:
- Universal 100-/240-VAC internal power supply. No need to mess with bulky AC/DC transformers.
- Multimode and single-mode versions available. Choose ST or SC connectors.
- Compact size for space-effective installation in virtually any location.
- Three modes of operation.
- Front-panel LEDs monitor activity.
- Link-Fault Detection for easy troubleshooting.
- Support half- and full-duplex operation. So you want to connect 10-Mbps copper devices to your fiber-based cabling infrastructure, but you don't want to invest in media converters that will be useless when you migrate to Fast Ethernet. If only there were units that could convert 10BASE-T today and 100BASE-TX later... There are! These BLACK BOX(R) 10-/100-Mbps Autosensing Media Converters are the first converters in the industry that enable you to implement a 10-Mbps fiber network and migrate to 100 Mbps with a single unit. They're ideal for futureproofing your fiber-to-desktop applications. When you upgrade a workstation to 100 Mbps, for example, all you have to do is change the network interface card. No other replacements are required. Talk about planning ahead! These compact, 1U-high converters include a 100-/240-VAC internal power supply and are available in multimode and single-mode versions with ST(R) or SC connectors. Choose multimode for shorter distances (up to 2 kilometers [1.2 mi.]) and short-wave transmissions over 850 or 1300 nm in fiber accordance with the 100BASE-SX standard. Single-mode versions support distances up to 100 kilometers (62.1 mi.) and transmit over 1310- or 1550-nm fiber. They're 100BASE-FX compliant. The 10-/100-Mbps Autosensing Media Converters include a Link-Fault Detection feature, which makes the laborious task of fault location easier. If a fault occurs, front-panel LEDs help you isolate cable breaks. The converters also have a push button by the twisted-pair port for selecting a crossover workstation connection or a passthrough repeater/hub/switch connection. The media converters have three modes of operation:
- PNP/Transparent, or autonegotiating, in which the converter configures automatically for 10 or 100 Mbps and half- or full-duplex.
- Force-10, in which the unit acts as a regular 10BASE-T/10BASE-FL converter.
- Force-100, in which the unit functions as a 100BASE-TX/100BASE-SX or 100BASE-TX/100BASE-FX converter (depending on the model). The default operation mode is PNP/Transparent. Also, you must operate the media converter in this mode to take advantage of the Link-Fault Detection feature.
