  • Transfers data at speeds up to 57.6 kbps. The BLACK BOX(R) 232<->488 Interface Converter (IC026A-R2) enables you to control one IEEE 488 printer or peripheral through a PC serial port. Or an IEEE 488 device can control an RS-232 or RS-422 device. The converter's flexible because it runs at a wide range of speeds--from 110 bps to 57.6 kbps. Its dynamically allocated 32 KB buffer is there when and where you need it. It sorts data from whichever port is active. Because no specific buffer is allocated to each port, no buffer space is wasted and incoming data has access to storage when it needs it. That means it unloads print jobs fast. It also has built-in ROM and RAM self-test features. The 488 Controller (IC027A-R2) enables you to control up to 14 IEEE 488 bus instruments from any async intelligent RS-232 or RS-422 device. It can also function as either a transparent IEEE-to-serial converter or as a serial-to-IEEE passthrough controller. As a serial-to-IEEE 488 converter, the 488 Controller receives data from a serial host, then automatically performs the bus sequences necessary to send this data to the IEEE 488 device. Data can be requested from the IEEE 488 device and returned to the host. In this configuration, the 488 Controller enables an RS-232 host computer to control up to 14 IEEE 488 devices. As an IEEE 488-to-serial converter, the 488 Controller is a peripheral to an IEEE 488 controller. Data received from the controller is sent to the serial device and data received is buffered for transmission to the IEEE 488 Controller. The 488 can use the serial poll-status byte to inform the host that it has received data from the serial device.
