- No accidental switching. Code-repetition feature separates switch commands from data. Bring the ease of "soft switching" to large RS-232 applications with our Code-Operated Switch-16 (COS-16). It works just as reliably as a mechanical switch, but you activate it by sending a two-character ASCII code from your PC rather than pressing a button or turning a knob. The COS-16 gives you a convenient solution for controlling equipment on your manufacturing floor, lab, or anywhere else you need multiple-switching power. Add a modem, and you can even control remote equipment. But you never have to leave your office to set it! You can work with all the files a mechanical switch will handle--even binary and graphics files. Switching is simple. From a PC, modem, or terminal installed on the common port, just send the prefix (arming) character to alert the COS-16. Then send the port-selection character. Electronic relays instantly direct data to the proper port. The COS-16 uses a special code-repeat feature that separates switch codes and binary data. That means you don't get any accidental switching. The switch only responds to switching codes that have been repeated one, two, four, or up to eight times in succession. Broadcast mode enables you to transmit simultaneously to all attached devices, making it easy to mass address a group of terminals or an array of laboratory instruments. With the COS-16, you can switch between up to 16 devices. Need more switching power? Add expansion units to control up to 48 more devices, giving you a total of 64 controllable devices. That's power.
