- In Fallback Mode, switches from a primary to a backup printer automatically. Here's a great way to send data to two printers at once--the BLACK BOX(R) Parallel Data Broadcast/Fallback Unit. It's also an ideal solution for designating a backup printer in case your primary parallel printer fails. Handy, front-panel switches enable you to choose broadcast or fallback mode. In Broadcast Mode, the unit gives you two simultaneous copies of the same printout. For example, the first printout goes to the front office; the second one is sent to the accounting department. Broadcast mode is also great for point-of-sale applications. Print a hard copy at the sales counter and a second copy in the warehouse at the same time. You can even team the unit with a pair of our SHM-B Parallel Line Drivers, so you can have one printout by your side and send another up to 5 miles (8 km) away! Another option is to set the unit for Fallback Mode to ensure constant access to a printer in mission-critical applications. If the primary printer runs out of paper or goes off-line, the unit switches to a designated backup printer automatically. If you choose to set up the unit for Fallback Mode, you should use identical parallel printers. The initialization string set to the primary printer does not carry over to the secondary printer. Don't worry about speed compatibility. Speeds will always match. The unit automatically adjusts its output to match the speed of the slower printer, so you can attach different types of parallel printers. You can tell what page is exiting the other printer with just one glance at one printer's output.
